“Therefore say unto the house of Israel, Thus saith the Lord GOD; REPENT, and turn yourselves from your idols; and turn away your faces from all your abominations.”   (Ezekiel 14:6)   (Emphasis mine)

“Testifying both to the Jews, and also to the Greeks, REPENTANCE toward God, and faith toward our Lord Jesus Christ.”   (Acts 20:21)   (Emphasis mine)

What do REPENTANCE and REPENT mean?   One of the Hebrew words used for repent means RETURN.  One of the Greek words used for repentance means A CHANGE OF MIND.  The other Greek word means SORROW.

When we put this together, we learn that God wants us to have a change of mind about our sins and about our Saviour.  He wants us to have a godly sorrow.  He wants us to return to Him.  We cannot be saved from sin and hell without repentance.

“Repentance unto life is a saving grace, whereby a sinner, out of a true sense of his sin, and apprehension of the mercy of God in Christ, doth, with grief and hatred of his sin, turn from it unto God, with full purpose of, and endeavor after, new obedience.”   -- Shorter Catechism

In true repentance, previous ideas are set aside.  New beliefs are accepted.  As a result, different conduct follows.  Previously the sinner had incorrect ideas about sin.  Now he changes to a true concept of sin.  Previously he had wrong ideas about God.

Now, based on the Bible, he has a true apprehension of the mercy of God in Christ.  He sees Messiah as his Representative, Kinsman-Redeemer, High Priest and Passover Lamb.  Messiah is his only hope of forgiveness and salvation from sin and hell.

He turns with grief and hatred of his sin, to God.  He endeavors to obey God's Law.  He will not always be successful (in this life) but it grieves him when he fails.  He confesses his sin to God and seeks mercy in Christ -- on an ongoing basis.

Repentance does NOT mean, “Do penance”.  Penance is an attempt to pay for the debt of sin.  It is the Catholic's effort to EARN salvation.  But only Messiah can fully pay the debt for sin.

Man does NOT EARN salvation by repentance.  True repentance is NOT man's gift to God.  It is God's GIFT to man.

“Him hath God exalted with his right hand to be a Prince and a Saviour, for to GIVE REPENTANCE to Israel, and forgiveness of sins.”   (Acts 5:31)   (Emphasis mine)

“When they heard these things, they held their peace, and glorified God, saying, Then hath God also to the Gentiles GRANTED REPENTANCE unto life.”   (Acts 11:18)   (Emphasis mine)

“In meekness instructing those that oppose themselves; if God peradventure will GIVE them REPENTANCE to the acknowledging of the truth.... “   (2 Timothy 2:25)   (Emphasis mine)

God commands all men everywhere to repent, but none are willing to do so.  God is free to grant or withhold the gift of repentance unto life and saving faith in Messiah.  God gives this gift to none but His elect people.  Repentance and faith are two sides of the same coin.

Saving faith always comes together with genuine repentance unto life.  Faith without repentance is a vain, dead faith.  Such is the faith of devils -- they believe in God (and tremble) -- but they have NO real repentance.

Since repentance is a GIFT from God, it should NOT be condemned as a plan of salvation by “works”.  Yet some highly esteemed Bible teachers today DO condemn the preaching of repentance as a “works” salvation.  They teach that men need only believe, but NOT repent.

Those who claim that Gospel preachers should not tell their audiences to repent do but voice their own ignorance.  REPENT and REPENTANCE are found throughout the Bible.  It is in the Hebrew Scriptures, the Gospels, the Acts, the Epistles and Revelation.

It is a COMMAND given to Israel (Ezekiel 14:60) to the Gentiles (Acts 17:30) and to the Churches (Revelation, chapters 2 and 3) by the LORD Himself.  Repentance is to be continued throughout the whole course of our lives.

Why?  It is necessary because of the fallen, sinful nature of our earthly bodies.  It is every person's duty to repent of his or her known sins particularly.  There is no sin so small but that it deserves damnation.  Yet there is no sin so great that it will bring damnation on them that truly repent.

These facts makes the constant preaching of REPENTANCE necessary.  And so say the Holy Scriptures:

“And said unto them, Thus it is written, and thus it behoved Christ to suffer, and to rise from the dead the third day: And that REPENTANCE and remission of sins should be preached in his name among all nations, beginning at Jerusalem.”   (Luke 24:46-47)   (Emphasis mine)

“As many as I love, I rebuke and chasten: be zealous therefore, and REPENT.”   (Revelation 3:19)   (Emphasis mine)

Concerned about inflation leading to hyperinflation? Some say buy silver and gold coins. Others say it is evil to own silver and gold coins. What does the Bible teach us? Tulip Gems offers an Hyperinflation Survival Guide which provides a Biblical basis for ownership of silver and gold coins as an hedge against the horrors of hyperinflation.  Links to online vendors are also provided.

Will out of control government spending lead to hyperinflation, and possibly to a new world currency? Will a new world currency lead to the Mark of the Beast (666)? Will the Rapture occur before the Tribulation (Pre-Tribulational Rapture) or will the Rapture occur after the Tribulation (Post-Tribulational Rapture)? For Biblical answers, visit our
Mark of the Beast Explained page.

Will America come under nuclear attack? What does the Bible say? For reliable information on what to do in a nuclear attack, read our
Survive Nuclear Attack page. While many Calvinists shy away from Bible prophecy, we don't. For those who want Biblical guidance about the future, check out our Hyperinflation Survival Guide, Mark of the Beast Explained and Survive Nuclear Attack pages. Our Lord Jesus Christ spoke often about the events leading up to His Second Coming. Where our Good Shepherd leads, we may safely follow.

Who is Jesus Christ? Why KJV only? Why Home School your children? Jesus Christ is Lord and the KJV Bible is the Preserved Word of God in English.  Finally, Scripture gives us compelling reasons to Home School our children. One very important reason is to lead them to Our Passover Lamb. We recommend Christ-centered Home Schooling Curriculum.
