But grow in grace and in the knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.  To him be glory both now and forever.  Amen.

THE EIGHTH COMMANDMENT & GUN CONTROL (Part 2)

“Thou shalt not steal” Exodus 20:15

“But know this, that if the goodman of the house had known in what watch the thief would come, he would have watched, and would not have suffered his house to be broken up.”   (Matthew 24:43)

“Then said he unto them, But now, he that hath a purse, let him take it, and likewise his scrip: and he that hath no sword, let him sell his garment, and buy one.”  (Luke 22:36)

DOES GUN CONTROL STOP CRIME?

Some gun control advocates sincerely believe that gun control will cut down on violent crime.  Are they correct?  What are the facts? Since private ownership of guns became illegal in Australia, the following crimes increased:

-- Armed robberies up 69%

-- Assaults with guns up 28%

-- Gun murders up 19%

-- Home invasions up 21%.

Why?  To answer that question, the NRA interviewed known ex-convicts.  Here's what they learned.  Criminals don't turn in their guns to comply with gun control laws.  Criminals like operating in strict gun control areas.

They know they are less likely to be shot in the commission of their crime in places where gun control is the law.  Their victims (usually law-abiding citizens) no longer have any guns to defend themselves.

Places like New York City, which have strict gun-control laws, also have the most violent crime, per capita.  Places like Arizona, which have many law-abiding gun-owners, have a relatively low violent crime rate, per capita.

RIGHT TO CARRY LAWS

Thirty-one states now have "Right to Carry" (RTC) laws.  These laws enable law-abiding citizens to carry firearms for protection against criminals.

Professor John R. Lott, Jr., in his research at the University of Chicago, concludes:

"Allowing citizens without criminal records or histories of significant mental illness to carry concealed weapons deters violent crimes and appears to produce an extremely small and statistically insignificant change in accidental deaths."

He goes on to say, "If the rest of the country had adopted right to carry concealed handgun provisions in 1992, about 1,500 murders and 4,000 rapes, would have been avoided."

A Dept. of Justice survey found that 40% of felons chose not to commit at least some crimes for fear their victims were armed, and 34% admitted being scared off or shot at by armed victims.

Survey research by criminologist Gary Kleck showed at least 2.5 million protective uses of firearms each year in the U.S.   "The best available evidence indicates that guns were used about three to five times as often for defensive purposes as for criminal purposes."

SCHOOL MASSACRES & DRIVE BY SHOOTINGS

The liberal news media often capitalizes on sad shooting incidents at public schools, playgrounds, etc. to whip up public support for gun control.  This is not surprising, considering the news media's leftist, New World Order agenda.

The answer to the problem of criminal use of firearms is not gun control.  The answer is swift trial and punishment of murderers (yes, even minor age children).  Guns don't kill people.  People kill people.

QUESTIONS ON BANNING WEAPONS?

Should we ban cars because some people use them to run over pedestrians?

Should we ban butcher knives because some people use them to cut throats?

Should we ban baseball bats because some people use them to beat others?

Should we ban stones because some people use them to break windows and stone those they hate?  Should we ban piano wire because some people use them as garrotes?  Should we ban tire irons & chains because of gang fights?

To ask such questions is to answer them.  Banning the weapon is not the answer.  The answer to crime is swift trial and stiff punishment of the criminal.  Ban the criminal (by capital punishment for first-degree murder).

IF GUNS ARE OUTLAWED, ONLY OUTLAWS WILL HAVE GUNS

The elderly, the disabled, the infirm and most females, will then be at a disadvantage when face to face with a stronger, violent criminal.  Guns are the only equalizer these victims have.  The police usually arrive after the crime.

Government confiscation of guns from law-abiding citizens is THEFT.  It is a massive violation of the Eighth Commandment “Thou shalt not steal”.
